Assignment 8
The video was set somewhere in Asia and had three characters: the deaf girl, the violinest, and the girl pianist. The internal conflict through out the entire video was that the main girl wanted to play the violin but thought she couoldn’t because was deaf. The external conflict was between the main girl and the girl who played piano. The piano girl brought sadness to the deaf girl by saying she could never play the violin and taunting her during the video. I think that the guy playing the violin was a symbol to the main girl that there is hope in being able to play. Also the violin was a symbol of strength because it was taped up during her performance, from being smashed, and not once did it give out. The protaganist was the man playing the violin and the antagonist was the girl pianist. It was very ironic how a girl who could not here anything could make such beautiful music through her violin. The climax of the video was when she performed at i’m guessing was a talent show. Lastly the theme was to never give up no matter what obsticles are in your way. In the video I chose it follows the same them of never giving up.

The Lyre Bird
At first when i was watching the video I was laughing because of what weird noises the lyre bird was making, but by the end of the video I became serious about what noises came out of the mimicking bird’s mouth.
The sound of jack hammers, nail guns, and electric srew drivers filled the fresh air of the forest. I learned about industrialization in middle school and how people were killing the forests, but I never really thought of it that much. I was just concerned with what I was going to eat for lunch that day. Now I realize how serious this is. Thanks to Wikipedia I found out that lyre birds are native in Australia. That means that people not just in the U.S. or China are killing the forest, but all around the world. The rise in industrialization is spreading! No wonder people go and tie themselves to trees! If people keep cutting down trees and plants then eventually the world will run out of clean air because we all know that trees and plants create oxygen. Without trees there will not be breathable air and with out breathable air we all die. So I guess you can say that I am a tree hugger now after watching the clip, but wouldn’t you rather have air and live than a shopping mall.

Assignment #5 Self Image
Everyone has something about their body that they don’t like. Whether it’s your height, weight, ears, feet, etc. Why is that? Because the media has created an “image” for what people are suppose to look like to have a great job, marriage, kids, and life. They portray that women are supposed to be tall, thin, and look as young as possible. The “perfect” man is portrayed to be tall, dark, muscular, and handsom. The media makes looking a certain way desirable because those people always look like they are having fun. When you see someone having a good time you want to do exactly as they do so then you can have fun too. That is how society is acting today. We see actors and models having “THE” look when actually they have piles of make- up, hairspray, and spray tanning on. I have seen so many people either look orange from the tanning bed or from spray tans just because they want to have pretty skin like a model. Or i’m sure everyone knows about five people who are on diets right now, who really don’t need to be on a diet. The media is flushing everyone’s natural self down the toilet because they don’t think it’s “ideal” for society.
Not only is the media effecting everyone’s outer image but also their inner image ( I think that’s a word). The article Media Can Damage Self- Image says that in recent studies women who view ads with thin women experienced body dissatisfaction, negative moods, levels of depression, and a lowered self- esteem. Just by looking at someone else they had different perspectives about their self.
But I don’t think media is all bad. If someone is obese, then the media may help them overcome the unhealthy state that they are in. There are many advertisements that promote eating healthier to have a better life and I agree with them. When you have a healthy body you can do things as simple as going up and down the stairs to as extreme as running a marathon a lot easier to do. Being healthy helps your heart pump blood to your body easier too.
Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t mean having a healthy body means you have to be thin. Everyone’s body type is different. If you are larger than someone else but eat healthy food and excercise, then don’t freak out and become anarexic. God made everone different in personality, ability, and body shape. So don’t try to change how God made you because changing his art will only make him angry. You can see that a lot of anarexic, belemic, and plastic surgery freaks usually don’t end up well. God made you in the image of Christ, so what can be better than that?

Pencil Face :)
The mood that I got out of the video was eary at first. The music was as if something bad was going to happen and the girl was pale, lanky, and had long dark brown hair, which reminded me of a character off a scary movie. By the middle of the video the mood changed to happy and excited when she found the pencil that could make things become real instead of two dimensional drawings. You could tell that she was happy by the smile that came upon her face when she saw the giant cake she drew become reality. although the girl was in a joyful mood the pencil however creeped me out! The pencil was trying to be happy, but with the overly- sized smile on its face it portrayed a more creepy look. By the end of the video the mood became scary and then sad. It was scary because instead of the girl’s last drawing turning into a life size lollipop, it turned into a black hole. Then the girl was sucked into the black hole and the mood was sad because she was no longer there.
I think the message of the video was a lot of different things. One was don’t take tempting things from strangers beacause the stranger is only luring you into something bad. Two was don’t take things for granted because you never know when you will have nothing like a black hole. Three was don’t be naive and look down a black hole. And four was if there is a life size pencil standing on its point in front of you with a giant creepy smile on its face, don’t pick it up and draw with it because it will suck you down a black hole.
But if i did come across a pencil like that and i knew for sure I was in no danger then i would probably draw a horse, 100 muffins (my favorite food), a mexican restaurant (my second fav food), money, and a car because mine is a junker. I would draw a horse because I love to ride horses, but I don’t own one myself. I kinda already explained why i would draw food because they’re my favorite food and I love to eat them! And obviously money because every one needs money.

Assignment 3
On the race matching game I got 5 right. I thought the task was pretty difficult because a lot of the people looked the same race, but their could only be four people in each category. So for the people who looked all the same I determined what category they should go in by there noses. Although, that strategy didn’t help me very well since I only got five correct. The assignment shows that not every person is what race you think they are. Just because a person has white skin doesn’t mean they are white in race. I think society today have become very judgemental on the way people look, instead of how they truely are.

1st Post
I think the idea of having students blog for a class assignment is pretty cool. It’s a different and unique idea that i would have never thought of. I have never used a blog for an assignment so it should be interesting for me to figure out how to use the site. I look forward to trying something new. Although, I hope I will have time to go on the computer and write. I believe this assignment will be a modern twist to the traditional pen and paper work.
